Norwich Police video of their response to altercation in Jenkins Park
The Norwich Police Department in Norwich, CT released video showing their response to an altercation that occurred in Jenkins Park on June 29.
On-duty road supervisor Sgt. Avery Marsh responds to Jenkins Park, where initial reports of a disturbance led to an emphatic call for reinforcements when two responding officers found a large crowd gathered for an unpermitted basketball and tournament and block party. The body camera footage shows Jaylen Jarmon, who was later charged with second-degree assault, breach of peace, assault on a police officer and interfering with a police officer, holding Officer Gary Gross in a headlock.
Officer Gary Gross’s body camera shows Officer Matthew Goddu punching Jarmon multiple times in the back while attempting to put him into handcuffs while officers in the background experience the effects of their own pepper spray.
Officer Victoria Clarke works to keep the crowd at bay with pepper spray before becoming overcome herself by the chemical, which resulted in a visit to Backus Hospital for the officer to be treated.
Dash cam footage from a responding officer shows Jarmon allegedly throwing a plastic water bottle at a person involved in a previous altercation at the park.
