Chestnut Street Playhouse stages "Doubt"
Chestnut Street Playhouse's next production is of a much-lauded and much-awarded play — John Patrick Shanley's "Doubt: A Parable."
The drama won the 2005 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. It won the 2005 Tony Award for Best Play. And its 2008 film version garnered a number of Oscar nominations, including those for best adapted screenplay and for acting by all of its stars — Meryl Streep, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Viola Davis and Amy Adams.
The framework of "Doubt" is this: In 1964 at a Bronx parochial school, a rigid mother superior suspects a progressive priest of having an improper relationship with a male student.
Hunter Parker directs the Norwich production, which stars Linda MacCluggage, Casey McDougal, Aurelia Clunie and Patrick Robinson. It opens tonight and runs through June 26.
