Rennie Harris Puremovement dances into Conn College

Rennie Harris Puremovement (Carlos Llano/Connecticut College)

The longest running hip hop dance company around comes to Connecticut College this week. Rennie Harris Puremovement begins its 25th Anniversary Living History Tour right here on Saturday.

In February of this year, five members of the group were actually in residence at Conn, and they offered master classes, artist talks and workshops for both the people on campus and for members of the broader public. They explored "the continuing global impact of hip hop dance." They were here as part of the "Hip Hop Year," a Dayton Artist-in-Residence program hosted by the Conn College Dance Department.

The performance on Saturday promises to be dynamic and eye-popping. Here's how the New York Times has described Rennie Harris Puremovement: "Mr. Harris shows his razor eye for threading virtuosic moves — the back flips, the aerials, the head spins, oh my! — into a tapestry of elegantly fluid popping and locking or simple walking patterns."

Rennie Harris Puremovement, 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Palmer Auditorium, Connecticut College, Mohegan Avenue, New London; $24, $21 seniors, $12 students; (860) 439-2787.
