ECSO ends 70th season with "Joy"

The Eastern Connecticut Symphony Orchestra’s 70th anniversary season is going out with a bang.

The finale concert boasts Beethoven’s ever-popular Symphony No. 9, which features the “Ode to Joy” theme. Joining the orchestra for that number will be the esteemed Eastern Connecticut Symphony Chorus, along with several soloists: soprano Sarah Yanovitch, mezzo-soprano Shirin Eskandani, tenor Brian Cheney, and baritone Steven Fredericks.

Before that big finish, though, the concert features Mozart’s Magic Flute Overture and Béla Bartók’s Dance Suite, which was selected in a nod to International Dance Day on Saturday.

Eastern Connecticut Symphony Orchestra, 8 p.m. Saturday, Garde Arts Center, 325 State St., New London; $32-$62, tickets for military and people under 30 available for $12; (860) 443-2876.
