Coast Guard Band plays outdoor concert today

The parades that celebrate Memorial Day tend to happen on Monday, but the U.S. Coast Guard Band provides a way to mark the holiday today.

The band will perform in concert at 1 p.m. today outdoors at Fort Trumbull State Park, overlooking the Thames River. The band will play each of the Armed Forces’ service songs, along with such works as “Eternal Father, Strong to Save,” “Hymn to the Fallen” by John Williams, and “Semper Fidelis” by J.P. Sousa. Musician 1st Class Megan Weikleenget will sing “America the Beautiful.” The concert is free.

Concert-goers should bring their own chairs or blankets. Monday is the rain date. Fort Trumbull State Park is located at 90 Walbach St. in New London.
