David Crosby plays the Garde Wednesday

David Crosby, Richard Shotwell, Invision/APDavid Crosby, 8 p.m. Wednesday, Garde Arts Center, 325 State St., New London; $49-$59, with $219 and $519 VIP packages available; (860) 444-7373, gardearts.org.

Somewhere, in a place we call "The Adjective Wilderness," it became a rule that, when describing a singer whose talent has stayed strong through the decades, journalists must write that the artist's voice has held up "remarkably well."

I hate to shatter that stipulation, but rock star David Crosby, almost 78, has a voice that's held up not just remarkably well but astonishingly well. It's held up superlatively well. It's held up in defiance of a once-wild lifestyle to the extent that it's done so eerily well.

Throw in the fact that Croz is still touring — and clearly loves it — has an excellent band, and has written a vast supply of stunning songs, and the opportunity to see him Wednesday in the Garde Arts Center is almost irresistible.

Crosby played the Garde almost precisely two years ago, and it was an exhilarating and nurturing experience. This time around, he seems to be focusing more on the years he spent in Crosby, Stills & Nash than his solo career — material from which has been very strong. Whatever the set list is, you're going to hear a lot of hits. Feel free to sing along, but don't feel bad if your voice hasn't held up, ah, in remarkable fashion.
