    Chestnut Street Playhouse stages ‘Mother’s Day’

    Ava R. Molnar’s play “Mother’s Day” started its history with the Chestnut Street Playhouse in Norwich as part of the theater’s annual Playwrights Festival.

    Now, it’s graduated to having a multi-week run as part of the Chestnut’s regular season. It opens Thursday, just in time for Mother’s Day weekend.

    The storyline involves two young women who take their mothers out for brunch. According to the Chestnut, “When old patterns re-emerge, and new conflicts come into play, the mother-daughter tensions rise, and they all find that next step might have to be a leap of faith.”

    Molnar is an artist and educator from Willimantic whose plays have been staged around New England. She is on the board of directors for Windham Theatre Guild ,where she has also written, directed, performed in, and choreographed shows.

    Wallis Johnson directs “Mother’s Day,” whose cast features Persephone Marien, Tricia Montes, Vicky Dobbins, Margaret Robertson and Olivya DeLuca.
