NRC issues findings from Millstone inspection

Waterford – The Nuclear Regulatory Commission announced today that a December safety and compliance inspection uncovered one license violation and one finding, both of “very low” safety significance, as well as two violations reported by Millstone staff, also of “very low” significance.

The NRC-identified violation was classified as “green,” the second-lowest of the NRC’s ranking system. It involved a fire protection scenario that was omitted from drill procedures, Millstone spokesman Ken Holt said.

“When we identified it during the inspection, we changed our procedures to incorporate the scenario,” he said. The NRC finding, which involved a failure of the company to follow its own internal procedure, pertained to a turbine-driven auxiliary feedwater pump in the Unit 3 reactor. That has also been corrected, Holt said.

The two violations identified by Millstone staff have also been resolved. These pertained to a rollup door and a valve that were improperly left open.
