The Mystic Irish Parade happens Sunday

Published March 20. 2014 4:00AM   Updated March 22. 2014 9:00AM

The Mystic Irish Parade is a big deal. As in: around 2,000 marchers taking part and more than 30,000 viewers lining the streets.

That's big.

This year's procession begins at 1 p.m. Sunday, and it marches from Mystic Seaport to Main Street to the Mystic Arts Center.

This parade has it all, from bands - Celtic pipe groups, high-school bands, drum and bugle corps, and the Boston-based Irish folk band Inchicore - to fire trucks and antique cars.

And this year's grand marshal is Tony Sheridan, who is president of the Chamber of Commerce of Eastern Connecticut.

Mystic Irish Parade, 1 p.m. Sunday, leaves from Mystic Seaport's south parking lot on Route 27, travels down Willow, Broadway and Main Street, and ends at Mystic Arts Center on Water Street; mysticirishparade.org.

I see the first daffodils.
The first 65 degree day.
The return of the sounds of chirping birds.
