Groton - Thames Edge at Fairview will provide guided tours next week of a model home so prospective residents can see what the new retirement community will look like.
Fairview the Odd Fellows Home of Connecticut is building 23 houses, a clubhouse and an access road as part of a plan to expand its offerings to a campus of single-family homes. Tours will be offered from 4 to 6 p.m. on June 11 and 13, and at 1 p.m. on June 14.
The Odd Fellows Home property, which covers 70 acres, is known mostly for its 120-bed skilled nursing facility. But the property also includes a building with 20 one- and two-bedroom apartments and a cottage with four apartments for people living independently.
The new development would add single-family homes and allow seniors to buy into the community, live in a house and receive care in that house, or obtain care in the nursing facility if they needed it.
"By providing guided tours, we hope to provide further access and information to others who would appreciate visualizing their future in a very tangible way," said James Rosenman, chief executive officer and administrator.
