    Local college roundup: Medina leads Conn to victory

    New London - Michelle Medina's unassisted goal in the 78th minute lifted the Connecticut College women's soccer team to a 1-0 win over Colby in a New England Small College Athletic Conference game on Sunday.

    The goal came off a corner kick by Rebecca Raymond. Bryanna Montalvo made three saves for Conn (10-1 5-1) for her seventh shutout of the season. Conn reached the 10-win mark for the first time since 2002.

    In other games:

    • Danielle Gottwik scored a goal and had an assist as UConn beat Southern Methodist 3-1 in an American Athletic Conference game. Julie Hubbard and Rachel Hill scored goals and Gianna Roma and Riley Houle had assists for the Huskies (9-3-4, 2-1-3).

    Field hockey

    • Freshman goalie Nina Klein stopped four consecutive stroke attempts as No. 6 UConn beat Boston University 2-1 in penalty strokes. Chrissy Davidson and Casey Umstead made their attempts in the penalty stroke phase for UConn (9-2). Umstead gave UConn a 1-0 lead at 46:56, Charlotte Veitner had an assist and Klein finished with two saves.

    • Megan Fortier scored a pair of goals as Colby beat Connecticut College 3-0 in a the NESCAC. Ryley van der Velde made eight saves for Conn (4-6, 1-5).

    Men's soccer

    • Connecticut College was outshot by Colby, 18-9, but came away with a double-overtime, scoreless tie in the NESCAC. Daniel Cui made six saves for Conn (5-6-1, 2-4-1).

    Men's water polo

    • Connecticut College went 0-3 over the weekend, falling to MIT 13-11 and Division I schools Harvard (22-15) and Brown (14-1). Carlos Heros, who scored the only goal against Brown, had four goals against MIT while Nick DiLeo and Henry McMillan had two goals each. Robert Spencer scored five goals against Harvard while Dylan Pinkkert scored twice for Conn (2-8).
