Linares' policies don't represent his district

The Day's troubling endorsement of freshman Republican Senator Art Linares, "Linares, in the 33rd Senate District," (Oct. 24), failed to answer this key question: has Mr. Linares earned the support of the 65 percent who did not vote for him in 2012 when he was elected by default in a 3-way race?

The answer is a resounding, "No!" He is not a moderate, and his votes and views are still conservative and extreme. Voters beware.

Touting solar, he's got the second worst environmental voting record in the entire Senate (League of Conservation Voters). He voted against the Earned Income Tax Credit for working families, and twice against raising the minimum wage favored by 70 percent of state voters.

He appointed a paid jewelry industry lobbyist to replace him on a committee that oversees health issues in jewelry for children.

The Conservative Political Action Conference, which promotes extremist ideas and Tea Party candidates, featured him as their speaker in 2013.

For a return to moderation and bipartisanship support for working families, the environment, women's health, and the right to be free of government interference in our personal lives, Democrat Emily Bjornberg is the clear choice for state Senate.
