Automotive happenings: parade of trucks, teen driving report card, and more

A world record attempt, a teen driving performance monitor, a music initiative, and recycled water bottles are some of the items promoted by automakers recently.

•The new 2016 Chevrolet Malibu will include a new system called Teen Driver to encourage safe habits among young drivers. Parents will be able to track data such as speed, braking events, and forward collision warnings. Teen Driver will also mute the radio or systems paired with the vehicle until front seat belts are fastened.

•With 500 spots open to volunteering drivers, Ram will attempt to break the Guinness World Record for largest parade of pickup trucks on April 18 as part of the American Country Music Awards. The Vale Chamber of Commerce in Oregon set the previous record of 438 trucks on July 5, 2014.

•Toyota is opening submissions for a street music initiative called “Feeling the Street.” Entrants must submit a video showing the performance of an original song on the street, and winners will be selected for a nine-day tour and live performance in New Zealand.

•Ford has announced that a recycled fiber known as REPREVE is being used in the manufacture of its new F-150 trucks. The company says it expects the use of this material will keep 5 million plastic bottles out of landfills.
