Hot Rod Cafe of New London took home the second place trophy at the National Buffalo Wing Festival in Buffalo, N.Y., over Labor Day weekend.

The restaurant and bar placed second out of about 30 restaurants nationwide in the traditional medium buffalo wing sauce category — one of seven categories in the festival’s restaurant sauce-off competition.

“To take second place in the biggest wing competition in the country is such a huge honor for us,” said Hot Rod Cafe owner Rod Cornish in a press release.“We are so proud to have represented New London and brought home this great win, not just for our restaurant but for our city,” he said.

Cornish said he plans to return to the festival next year with hopes of winning first place.
