    ECSO contest prize-winners announced

Cellist Yi Qun Xu was chosen as the winner of the 58th Annual ECSO Instrumental Competition that was held Saturday at Connecticut College, winning $3,000 and the opportunity to perform with the Eastern Connecticut Symphony Orchestra on Feb. 24.

Yi Qun came to the U.S. after studying with Yi-Bing Chu at China's Central Conservatory of Music, where she won multiple top prizes in Chinese national cello competitions. The others honors she has received include second place at the Juilliard Concerto Competition.

Second place at the ECSO Instrumental Competition was clarinetist Bixby Kennedy, a Yale alumnus, and third place went to violinist Rachel Ostler, a master of musical arts candidate at Yale.

The competition recognizes the talents of emerging young musicians through the age of 25.
