East Lyme — Marvel Home Decorating, previously at the New London Mall, has announced its relocation to the Flanders Plaza in East Lyme.

A grand opening in Flanders will be held next month for the more than 80-year-old store, which specializes in home decorating products and personal service.

Before the latest move, Marvel had always been in New London, at first run by the Dorsky family and later taken over by their daughter and son-in-law, Lou and Naomi Javin, who ran the business until 1986. Current owner Gail Grillo took over at that point, moving Marvel from Captain's Walk (now State Street) to the New London Mall.

“Getting just the right look for each room in your home can be overwhelming,” said Grillo, president and lead designer at Marvel, in a statement. “Our new location in East Lyme is the perfect location for us, as we help customers old and new with their decorating challenges.”

As part of the move, the store will feature new Hunter Douglas products and displays of custom-made window fashions. Dozens of products will be fully displayed, allowing customers to try out all the designs the store carries.

In addition, Marvel has added a new member to the staff with licensed designer Margaret “Margy” Faasen. She has nearly two decades of design experience.
