Analysis: Coast Guard comes off a bye week and into the final three-game stretch of the season with a new quarterback in freshman Joe Armentrout from Oceanside, California, who replaces junior Tafari Wall. Armentrout has limited experience, coming on in relief of Wall in a 60-0 loss to Springfield on Oct. 6, but this will be his first career start and his first appearance at home. Said Armentrout: "Definitely, there's always that little shock factor when your number gets called. There's always going to be that little adrenaline." But Armentrout believes one of his strong points is composure — "however the game's going and just being able to bounce back whether it's a good drive or a bad drive, I would say." Coast Guard coach C.C. Grant, meanwhile, is hoping for the Bears to hit the reset button after four straight losses, including two of the top teams in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference in Springfield and Catholic. "I told the guys (Tuesday), these last three games, I want to almost use it like it's a new season," Grant said. "We can't erase what's happened before; just think of ourselves as being 0-0. We've got a three-game season and let's go at it that way." Coast Guard had Friday, Saturday and Sunday off and Grant said "you can tell there's a little bit of hop in the step; guys have fresh legs." ... MIT overcame a 16-point deficit in the fourth quarter last week, scoring the final 27 points for a 48-37 win over Norwich. Freshman quarterback Oakley Dehning made his first career start for the Engineers and won the New England Football Writers' Association Division II/III Gold Helmet Award, going 13-for-20 passing for 196 yards and four touchdowns while adding 64 rushing yards. MIT averages 383.3 yards offense per game (172.7 rushing, 210.6 passing), while scoring 29.8 points per game. The defense is allowing 345.8 yards (144.8 rushing, 201 passing). ... Last time the teams met in 2019, MIT scored a touchdown with 54 seconds remaining to beat Coast Guard 22-16, with a fumbled punt setting up the game-winner.
