Found-objects artist Judith Shea opens a new show in Essex

In a press release for “Portrait(s) of my Father(s),” her new show opening Sunday in the Gallery at Riverside Press in Essex, artist Judith Shea says her recent work was inspired by discovering she is 13 percent Irish. Given the refreshing, creative, original and, yes, eerie quality of her works — all of which she creates from found objects (consider the piece shown here) — we’re glad Shea found out about the Ireland connection. At the same time, we’re not sure whether we hope or are afraid — or both — that Shea might in the future discover she’s 87 percent voodoo queen! The opening reception for “Portrait(s)” takes place from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, and the show runs through Nov. 7. The Gallery at Riverside Press is at 18 Plains Road, Essex. Hours 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Mon.-Fri. and by chance 1-4 p.m. Sat.; (860) 767-8752.
