Stonington Sounds Festival happens Saturday
Jubilee. Gala. Fiesta. Jamboree. Frolic (noun, not verb). Commemoration. Soiree.
These are just a few words we could consider this time of year, when it's warm outside and people gather at innumerable FESTIVALS.
Why are all of these events referred to as a "festival" (or its derivative "fest")? To call every one of them a "festival" takes the punch out of the word — sorta like when every college basketball tournament or golf tournament is a "classic."
Still, the free Stonington Sounds Festival happens Saturday in the Borough, and any time here's a chance to stroll through that quaint real estate and hear live music on a sparkly June day, it's probably a fest-worthy occasion. The lineup:
11 a.m. — "Sing & Play with Ms. Bergin (children's concert with Bergin O'Malley), Wadawanuck Square
noon — The Westerly Band, Wadawanuck Square
2 p.m. — The Chris Conte Trio plays the Great American Songbook, Stonington Town Green
3 p.m. — classical violinists Stephan Tieszan and Elena Zamolodchikova, La Grua Center
4 p.m. — Irish Music with Executive Session, Stonington Commons Green
7 p.m. — Chanteys & Songs from the Sea with Craig Edwards & Geoff Kaufman, Portuguese Holy Ghost Society.
