New London – Duane Maranda, who led New London High School to 25 wins and two playoff berths in four seasons, resigned Monday as the head football coach, following a 2-8 season.

Maranda, who has also coached at St. Bernard and Bacon Academy, finished his four years with 25 wins, 18 losses and the Eastern Connecticut Conference Large Division title in 2013.

"It became apparent to me that the goals and visions I had for the program weren't the same as the administration's," Maranda said Monday night in a telephone conversation. "It just wasn't a good fit anymore."

Maranda and the Whalers had three winning seasons, highlighted by two seasons ago, when they won eight straight games, two on late, fourth-quarter field goals.

Maranda also sent 11 players to play college football on various levels in his first three years and said Monday he anticipates "three to four more" will play in college who played on the 2015 team.
