    H.S. roundup: Stonington boys qualify for postseason

    Stonington — Bobby Atkins had 28 points and seven assists as Stonington High School qualified for the Eastern Connecticut Conference and and Class M state tournaments with an 83-68 boys' basketball victory over Norwich Tech on Saturday.

    Matt Schmeelk added 23 points and 11 rebounds for the Bears (8-7) while Ben Dellacono had 13 points and Amadi White had seven points and 17 rebounds.

    Jared Neal scored 23 points and Jacob Sulik 22 for Norwich Tech.

    Wrestling

    • Noah Caskey (113 pounds) and Joel Morth (132) won titles to help lift Montville to the championship at the 16-team Centaur Invitational. The Indians finished with 166 points, edging Bristol Central (160). Zach Looney (126), Sam Kury (138), Austin Concascia (145) and Emanuel Diaz (182) finished second and Nick Tibbetts (220) was third for Montville.

    • Fitch's Jared Kosman went 4-0 as the Falcons went 0-4 at the New Fairfield Duals. Kosman (113) had two pins and two technical falls as the Falcons (9-22) lost to Wilton (48-22), New Fairfield (63-18), Nonnewaug (51-27) and Newtown (54-23). Billy Goff (160) went 2-2, suffering his first losses of the season, and Wisdom Bedjrah (152) went 3-1.

    • Ledyard finished its regular season at 22-5 with victories over Waterford (49-19), Hand and Southington at the Lancer Duals. Host Waterford went 0-3, losing to the Colonels, Hand (37-34) and Southington (47-28). Noah Concascia (145) went 3-0 with three pins for the Lancers (15-14) while Logan Smith (106) and Sam Lindblom (152) also went 3-0.

    Girls' fencing

    • East Lyme's Cassandra Greeley went 6-0 with plus 21 as the Vikings beat Waterford and Griswold by scores of 8-1 in foil. Waterford beat Griswold 8-1 and also beat East Lyme 6-3 in epee.

    Boys' fencing

    • Jason Huang of Waterford was plus 25 as the Lancers beat Griswold (9-0) and East Lyme (8-1) in foil. East Lyme's Ian Peitzsch was plus 15 as the Vikings beat Griswold 5-4 and Waterford 7-2 in epee.

    Hockey

    • Barlow broke a 2-2 tie with three straight goals in the third period and went on to beat the Eastern CT Eagles 6-3. Collin Hall, Kody Twomey and Will Vorra had goals, Han Sherman made 28 saves and Jimmy Fitzmaurice and Larry Nolan had assists for the Eagles (4-12).
