The Norwich Free Academy girls’ track team will try to repeat its feat of last season, stumbling during the regular season against East Lyme, but going on to win the Eastern Connecticut Conference championship meet.

The Wildcats will go for their ninth straight title Saturday in the meet at Waterford High School (9:30 a.m. start for field events, 10 a.m. for track). East Lyme defeated NFA 76-74 during the regular season, with the meet coming down to the final event in the javelin.

East Lyme is the defending ECC boys’ champion.

NFA has one top seed in the girls’ meet in Kelsie Hall (pole vault), while ECC Large champion East Lyme has a pair in Alexis Burgess (triple jump) and Haley Ashton (100-meter hurdles). Fitch’s Madison Powe is the only local girl to be seeded first in two events, favored in the long jump and the 100.

ECC Medium champ Stonington has a pair of top seeds in Taty LaFrance Boyce (javelin) and Caroline Morehouse (3,200).

Ledyard's Megan Brawner will defend her titles in the 800- and 1,600-meter events.

Waterford’s Rolando Rivera is the only local boy to be favored in two events (long jump, 200). ECC Large Division winner NFA has top seeds in Marquis Ward (high jump), Jawaun Johnson (100), Nick Fitch (800) and Brandon Mehlinger (3,200).

Johnson won the 100 and 200 last year, as well as leading the Wildcats' 4x100 relay team to a victory.

Tickets for the event are $8 for adults and $5 for students and senior citizens. Children under five will be admitted for free.
