    H.S. roundup: Old Lyme girls advance to Shoreline lacrosse final

    Old Lyme — Anna Mesham, Sydney Cowell and Abby Berger scored three goals each as the top-seeded Old Lyme High School girls' lacrosse team advanced to the Shoreline Conference tournament final with a 13-8 win over No. 4 Haddam-Killingworth in a semifinal Tuesday.

    The Wildcats (15-2) play No. 2 North Branford for the title on Thursday at 5 p.m. in Clinton. Maggie Berger had two goals, Mesham had three assists, Hannah Guenther made 10 saves and Tessa Kroes and Lauren Quaratella had goals for Old Lyme.   

    In other games:

    • Maddie Catlett scored four goals as Fitch rallied for a 7-5 win over St. Bernard. Zoe Pearse, Maggie O'Leary and Molly Reinhold also scored goals and Abby Casey made nine saves for Fitch (5-11), which trailed 4-2 at halftime before scoring five unanswered goals. Mia Londregan and Kara Bassett each scored twice for St. Bernard (7-8), Brianne Hoffa had a goal and Payton McCawley made nine saves.  

    • Casey Rubino and Adine Hilbert scored four goals each, leading Griswold to a 10-5 win over Wheeler in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Division III game. Aili Harvey-Berk scored three goals, Rachel Serra had a goal and an assist, Blakely Hewes made eight saves and Daniela Roy had a goal for Wheeler (1-11,0-6).

    Boys' tennis

    • Stonington completed a perfect season in ECC Division II with a 5-0 win over Woodstock Academy. Sean Bessette and Graham Johnstone won the only singles matches contested for the Bears (14-1, 6-0) while the teams of Chris West-Ben Anderson, Kyle Remmert-Spencer Jones and Filip Aubrecht-Sam Snediker swept the doubles.

    Boys' lacrosse

    • No. 1 Valley Regional beat No. 4 Old Lyme 16-4 in a Shoreline Conference semifinal. Ian Humphries and Matt Cushman had two goals each, Mike Kolesnik had a goal and an assist and Alec Speirs had an assist for Old Lyme (6-11).

    • Jack Feeley had three goals and Pat Brady added two goals and an assist as St. Bernard/Wheeler edged Woodstock Academy 10-8 in an ECC Division II game. Jack O’Leary and Roland Long each had a goal and an assist for the Saints (10-6, 6-3).

    Boys' golf

    • Killingly wrapped up its fifth straight ECC Division II/Medium title with a 7-0 win over Stonington. Dylan Deotte of Killingly (19-1, 9-0) was the medalist with a 1-over-par 35 at Connecticut National Golf Club. Jack Glenn and Grant Hamilton had 41s for Stonington (10-3, 5-3).

    • New London beat Grasso Tech 208-219. Andre McClain of New London (4-9) was the medalist with a 40 and teammate Tim Glavan shot a 46. Reese Cote led Grasso with a 49.

    • Chris Bouchard of Montville was the medalist with a 40 as the Indians beat Waterford 5-2 in an ECC Division II match. Sam Gaboury and Noah Cook also won matches for Montville (11-5, 4-5) and Bruce Taggart and Eddie Aledia won their matches for Waterford (7-7, 1-7).

    • Griswold beat St. Bernard 5.5-1.5 in an ECC Division III match. James Kenefick won his match for St. Bernard (0-14, 0-9). 

    Girls' tennis

    • Old Lyme swept doubles play in a 5-2 Shoreline Conference victory over Haddam-Killingworth. Bryann McGlinchey and Emma Bass won singles matches for the Wildcats along with the doubles teams of Marissa Smith-Shannon Nosal, Maria Donato-Callie Kotzan and Sophie Warlitz-Emily O-Brien.

    Girls' track

    • Grasso Tech's Rhema Phillips won the outstanding field athlete award during the Constitution State Conference Championships. Phillips won the triple jump (34 feet, 0.25 inches), long jump (17-3.25) and 100-meter hurdles (16.64 seconds). Her distances for the jumping events were school records and she ran a leg on the school record setting 4x400 relay team that finished third in 4:45.19. Topaz Baker, Ana Da Silva and Hannah Vandevender completed the relay team. In addition, Grasso's Sam Gauthier won the 3,200 (11:13.97) and placed second in the 1,600 (4:58.09) and 800 (2:11.74), while Taylor Cooley was fourth in the javelin (81-10) and Da Silvia was fifth in the 800 (2:55.16).

    For Norwich Tech, Ashley Williams placed fourth in the 200 (28.17), Chloe Guzman was fifth in the 400 (1:05.25) and triple jump (30-0.5), Nya Maldonado was fourth in the high jump (4-8) and Marlayna Loranger second in the javelin (84-9) and fifth in the shot put (26-3.5).

    Boys' track

    • Norwich Tech placed third in the CSC Championship with 54 points. Jagger Peterson and Xavier Wright finished third (5-8) and fourth (5-6), respectively, in the high jump for while Pedro Castillo-Santos took fourth in the 800 (2:15.10), Nate Turner was fourth in the 3,200 (11:53.24), Joe Labrecque was fourth in the long jump (19-0), Nate Pomerleau was fifth in the 300 hurdles (47.02) and Chris Stanford was fifth in the javelin (119-5). For Grasso, Sam Gauthier won the 3,200 (11:13.94) and placed second in the 800 (2:11.74) and 1,600 (4:58.09).
