Waterford — Maddie Burrows came on in relief with the bases loaded and no outs in the top of the sixth inning and got Waterford out of the jam to help it beat Fitch softball on Friday, 5-4.

Burrows struck out three with no hits over two innings to earn the save for the Lancers (17-3), who have won 13 straight. Cassidy Susi added a three-run home run in the bottom of the fourth to give Waterford a 4-1 lead, and Ciana Chiappone singled and scored twice.

Gina McKittrick had two hits, including a double, and an RBI, Chloe McCue had two hits and scored, and Rachel Miller earned the win for the Lancers

Casey Flax and Karly Morales each had two hits for the Falcons (7-13).

In other games:

• Jaylyn Mueller had a two-run double and East Lyme went on to score six runs in the top of the eighth inning in a 12-8 victory over Stonington. Mueller finished 2-for-5 with a double, triple and three RBI and Isabel Siciliano had two hits and three RBI for East Lyme (9-10). Stonington (9-10) responded with two runs in the bottom of the eighth.

Miranda Arruda led off the game with a home run for Stonington and later connected for her 100th career hit, as well as providing the Bears' defensive highlight of the game with a running catch in center field, according to coach Ann-Marie Houle. Arruda, celebrating her Senior Day game, scored twice and had an RBI. Tori LoPresto was 3-for-4 with a double, triple, three runs scored and two RBI.

• Samantha Money pitched a four-hitter with 17 strikeouts as Ledyard downed Windham 5-1. Aaliyah Amidon and Money both went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI for the Colonels (14-5) and Jenna Topalis tripled and scored.

• Freshman Lily Corrice pitched a six-hitter as Montville beat Woodstock Academy 13-2. Katelin Price was 4-for-4 with a triple to raise her team-leading average to .543. Jillian Murallo had three hits and drove in three runs, Alexis Michon hit a three-run homer and freshman Christyna Winstead singled and doubled for Montville (16-3). 

• Grasso Tech lost to Parish Hill 18-1 in a nonleague game. Laiya Roderick had two hits for Grasso (1-16).

H.S. baseball

• Jack Carney pitched a four-hitter with five strikeouts and Brady Sheffield added three hits, including two doubles, with two runs and two RBI as Old Lyme thumped Hale-Ray 10-2 to qualify for the Shoreline Conference tournament. Jesper Silberberg had two doubles and three RBI, Colbe Andrews doubled twice and Dan Kendall doubled for Old Lyme (10-9, 7-9).

• Ken Heon pitched a two-hitter and drove in two runs as Montville beat Waterford 4-1. Heon struck out six and also doubled. Nick Calash, Colby Minor and Ryan Champagne had two hits each for Montville (16-4) and Champagne scored twice.

• Parish Hill scored a run in the bottom of the seventh inning to break a 6-6 tie and beat Grasso Tech 7-6 in a nonleague game. Cameron Polen and Cameron Chenot drove in two runs each and Randy Vidal and Robert Holland each scored once for Grasso (7-8).

H.S. girls’ lacrosse

• Emilia Skrabacz scored six times for New London in its 16-11 win over Wheeler in an ECC Division III game. Olivia Yard had three goals for New London (10-3, 4-5). Gracie Anderson had six goals and two assists, Daniela Roy scored five goals and Leigha Debois had an assist for Wheeler/Grasso (1-10, 1-9).

H.S. girls' tennis

• East Lyme swept doubles play in a 6-1 win over Ledyard on Thursday. Becca Paggioli, Yurina Shirai and Sophie Rogers won singles matches for the Vikings (6-6) along with the teams of Emily Zhu-Liz Beaulieu, Caroline French-Grace Foltz and Sophie Arustei-Hannah Scott. Abby Dirico won at No. 1 singles for Ledyard (5-9).

H.S. boys' golf

• Waterford's Danny Torres earned medalist honors (36) to pace the Lancers to a 5-2 win over Stonington in an ECC Division II match. Nick Haynes and Caroline Petchark both shot a 41 for Waterford (7-6-1, 3-1-1) and Ryan Sadosky shot a 42. Grant Hamilton shot a 38 and Aidan Adams and Jacob Geary both shot a 42 for the Bears (10-5-1, 1-4).

College baseball

• UConn coach Jim Penders became the winningest coach in program history when the Huskies beat Tulane 8-5 on Thursday night in an American Athletic Conference game. Penders, in his 16th season, won his 557th game to top his former coach Andy Baylock and his 556. UConn (32-21, 11-11) rallied from a 4-1 deficit after four innings. Freshman catcher Pat Winkel had four hits and seven RBI, including a three-run single in the fifth and a grand slam in the seventh.  

Mason Feole earned his 19th career victory with six solid innings of work for the Huskies. The junior buckled down after the Huskies tied the game up in the fifth by stranding a pair of base runners in both the fifth and six innings. The left-hander racked up six strikeouts and moved into second all-time on the UConn strikeout list by passing Anthony Kay (263). With his 267 strikeouts, Feole is three away from tying Tim Cate for the most in UConn history.
