Keeping stating obvious but don't fix things!

I was shocked to see the following headline, “Stretch of I-95 called a crisis,” (Jan. 13). I hope never to see the following headline in the future while having my morning cup of coffee.

Perhaps we can follow up that news-breaking headline with, "Scientist claim water is moist" or "Temperature on the sun determined to be really hot" and, most scary, "Long-term cessation of breathing usually leads to death."

Can we please stop the political posturing, finger-pointing, calls for action, and re-statement of the obvious?

The “crisis” on I-95, at least from Exits 70 to 82 in both directions, is not new. Neither, unfortunately, is our collective refusal or inability to do anything substantive to rectify or significantly minimize this crisis. And that includes making a serious, long-term commitment to public transportation and mass transit.

The solution is not widening the highway. "More newspapers, please!" There’s a headline I would not be surprised to see in The Day in a few years. “Blue ribbon task force created by legislature to study traffic accident and congestion on I-95, between Waterford and Old Lyme.”

I think I’ll pass on reading the final report.
