Term limits needed, not likely to happen
The letter, “People should demand term limits for Congress,” (May 8), makes so much sense. Of course, the federal and state politicians/congressmen don’t want to see that happen for a number of selfish reasons and will do all that is necessary to keep such a constitutional amendment from seeing the light of day.
Our Founding Fathers were farmers, physicians, and merchants, as well as those verbose lawyers, and were needed back home, never intending to remain full-time employees in Congress. As time passed, however, to satisfy their need to impress the folks back home and validate their existence, politicians eventually grew the government so large and unwieldy that full-time congressmen became necessary. And because so many of those who vote, vote the party ticket, especially for those in office, dissension votes never count.
I hate to admit that we’re swimming against the tide. Term limits “ain’t gonna happen” just as so many other flaws in our government can’t be corrected. Hopefully a “White Knight” will come along and prove me wrong.
