Merge two Stoningtons into single town

It is time for North Stonington to fold up its tent and join the Town of Stonington. Every year it's the same repetitive cycle. Late town budget preparation, late referendums, budget defeats, tax bills and mill rate settings. Poor or little communication between the Board of Finance and the Board of Selectmen. There have been arguments at recent meetings, threats to reduce services at the landfill and not plow snow on some town roads.

Very rarely is a major project ever put out to bid and completed on budget and schedule, as witnessed by our latest Emergency Services Complex fiasco. After three years we have a flat lot, nice weeds and no contract for a building. Recent articles in the Westerly Sun and Mystic River Press say that the town is looking for a different form of government.

In The Day paper, “Selectmen: Preston should keep elected first selectman and not seek town manager position,” (Aug. 26), the Town of Preston completed the same study as North Stonington has proposed and decided that no changes were necessary based at looking at similar towns all over Connecticut.
