Astonishing how some mold political Christian message

In reference the letter, “Christian faith drove many Trump votes,” (Nov. 11), I couldn’t help but react to see the word “Christian” again paired with a certain political agenda. There have been just as many people, I’m sure, who because of their Christian values voted for Hillary Clinton, or earlier for Bernie Sanders, or for somebody else, or not at all.

To my knowledge, Jesus Christ never said a single word about gay issues or governmental control of women’s bodies. However, he preached plenty about how to treat the poor, the sick, the widows and orphans, the strangers in our midst, the prisoners and captives, and even our enemies. The obscure Jewish carpenter, whom Christians call the Son of God, gave the world a most revolutionary message: Unconditional love. To use his teachings and his life for anything less than that is in my opinion a form of blasphemy.
