East Lyme Police failed to protect

The article, “Fireworks seized this weekend in East Lyme,” (July 3), was short lived. On July 4 we were bombarded with professional grade aerial weaponry for over an hour. We have several families who invest large sums of money to provide what they believe to be a starry show with no regard to the damage it does to family life. Three calls to dispatch resulted in us being told that there were more pressing matters. They never came, the abuse to the citizens of Black Point was over when the abusers ran out of ammo. The East Lyme Police neither protected nor served.

So much for the new chief providing us with a top-notch police department. Quality of life issues must have their place in the service the department provides, as well as criminal. It doesn't take a scientist to staff appropriately for these predictable events. Why wasn't it done?
