Waterford’s Martucci to make NCAA debut today for Quinnipiac

Waterford High School graduate Adily Martucci will play in her first career NCAA tournament game today for the Quinnipiac University women's basketball team.

The Bobcats, in the midst of their best season in program history, are 31-3 and drew the No. 12 seed in the Oklahoma City Region. Quinnipiac will play No. 5 Oklahoma (20-11) in the first round of the tournament at 4 p.m. at Maples Pavilion in Stanford, Calif. (ESPN2). No. 4 Stanford will play No. 13 Cal-State Northridge in the second game at 6:30 p.m.

Quinnipiac earned its second NCAA tournament berth with a 72-61 victory over Marist in the MAAC championship on March 9. The Bobcats also earned a tournament berth in 2013, Martucci's freshman season, which she redshirted.

Martucci, a 5-foot-8 junior guard, averages 14.6 minutes per game for the Bobcats. Her best performance of the season came in a victory Jan. 9 at Canisius, in which she had 17 points on 6-for-9 shooting. She averages 5.9 points and 2.0 rebounds per game.

Martucci finished her career at Waterford with 915 points, 352 rebounds and 277 assists, helping lift the Lancers to a 21-5 record and a Class M quarterfinal bid in 2012.
