    Local roundup: Phetteplace provides the difference for Ledyard girls' lacrosse

    Ledyard — Ellie Phetteplace scored seven goals and had an assist Wednesday, leading the Ledyard High School girls' lacrosse team to an 11-9 win over Fitch in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Large Division game.

    Liz Austin had three goals and Gretchen Montgomery made 12 saves for Ledyard (7-2-1, 4-1).

    Michelina Pinto had five goals and and assist and Mae Sefransky had three goals and an assist for Fitch (4-6, 2-3).

    Boys' lacrosse

    • Jack Fader had seven goals and four assists and the defense, led by Jack O’Connor, Jack Ficke and Jack Hisle limited St. Thomas More to nine shots in Williams School’s 20-4 victory. Xavier Mills added four goals and five assists, Charlie Parsons had five goals and an assist and Harrison Hall had two goals for Williams.

    Baseball

    • Matt Spang allowed one hit over six innings and Mike Morgan drove in three runs as East Lyme beat Bacon Academy 14-0 in an ECC Large Division game. Spang struck out six with three walks and Morgan was 3-for-5 with a double, triple and two runs scored. Owen Tretter (two runs), Bennett Coe (double, two RBI) and Dylan Feeney (double, three RBI) had two hits each for East Lyme (8-4, 4-2).

    • Old Lyme took a three-run lead into the fifth inning before falling to Morgan 4-3 in the Shoreline Conference. Matt Przybysz and Callum Sawden had two hits apiece for Old Lyme (8-5).

    • Edgar Centeno doubled twice and drove in five runs as Grasso Tech beat Public Safety 10-9 on Tuesday. Michael Patti had two hits for Grasso.

    • Mike Dellaporta and Alex Haines each had three hits for Wheeler in a 13-3 win over Parish Hill. Dylan Wilkinson scattered five hits over five innings for the win and Josh Lapid pitched two innings of scoreless relief. Chris Munzer added a triple for Wheeler (2-10).

    Girls' track

    • Haley Ashton won the the high jump (5 feet), 100 meters (13.5 seconds) and 200 (28.0), pacing East Lyme past Fitch 91-59 in the ECC Large Division. Kristen Foster took first in the javelin (88-5) and shot put (33-0) for the Vikings (4-0, 2-0). Alicia Edwards won the discus (92-7) while Ariana Stanberry placed first in the 100 hurdles (19.2) and Brianna Robinson won the 300 hurdles (50.3) for Fitch (2-2, 0-2).

    Golf

    • Josh Ries shot a 48 to win his No. 4 match in Norwich Tech's 204-212 loss to Ellis Tech at Norwich Golf Course. Ellis Tech's Nate Ritacco (46) was the medalist. Norwich Tech is 3-5 overall, 2-4 in the Constitution State Conference.

    • Norwich Free Academy's Jack Sullivan shared medalist honors with RHAM's Matt Mulligan, each shooting a 42 at Blackledge Golf Course. NFA and RHAM tied at 166 in the team medal point and E.O. Smith finished with a 183. Noah Straub had a 43 for NFA.

    • Tourtellotte's Cole Johnson shot a 40 to earn medalist honors, leading his team to a 7-0 shutout of St. Bernard in an ECC Small Division match at Norwich Golf Course. Nick Morrow (43) had the low score for St. Bernard (3-5, 2-3).

    • Luke Teixeira was the medalist with a 4-over par 40, scoring Fitch's only point in a 6-1 loss to Montville at Shennecossett Golf Course. Ben Reed and Chris Bouchard each had a 44 for the Indians (9-2-1). Fitch is 0-7.

    • Waterford split two ECC Medium Division matches, beating Plainfield 7-0, and losing to undefeated Killingly 5-2 at Great Neck Country Club. Killingly's Drew Aitken was the medalist with a 2-over-par 37, while Matt Shea fired a 38 and Stephen Lavoie had a 43 for Waterford (7-4, 4-3). Killingly is 12-0, 5-0.

    New London beat Plainfield 6-1 in the ECC Medium. Danny Maranda won his No. 1 match with a 52 for the Whalers (3-4, 2-3), who lost to Killingly 7-0.

    • Old Lyme's Graham Aird and Matt McCarthy shared medalist honors at 46 as the Wildcats beat Coginchaug 186-192 in a Shoreline Conference match on Tuesday. John McLaughlin of Coginchaug also shot a 46 and Will Roberts and Cam Roberts of Old Lyme each had a 47. 

    College baseball

    • Coast Guard Academy sophomore Tim Duncan, who tied a single-season school record with six home runs, was named to the All-New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference second team for baseball. Duncan batted .301, leading the Bears in hits (34), doubles (nine), RBI (22) and slugging percentage (.558).

    College softball

    • Eastern Connecticut State University junior shortstop Alyssa Hancock of Waterford has been selected as the Louisvile Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division III national hitter of the week. She's the first player from a New England college to earn the honor this season. In four games last week, she batted .615 (8-for-13) with two doubles, three home runs, two steals and seven RBI.
