    Local roundup: Schooners win ninth straight

    Plymouth, Mass. — The Mystic Schooners ran their winning streak to nine with a 12-3 win over the Plymouth Pilgrims in a New England Collegiate Baseball League game on Thursday night.

    Former Montville High School standout Orlando Gonzalez III (Eastern Connecticut State) earned the victory. Gonzalez (1-0) allowed three hits and two runs over five innings, striking out nine with one walk.

    The Schooners (9-1) had a 14-hit attack. Leading the way was John Brucker (Marist) at 4-for-5 with two runs scored and Ben Ruta (Wagner), who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and three runs scored.

    Dan Hoy (Princeton) homered, drove in two runs and scored twice, Jake Meyers (Nebraska) and Louis Iannotti (Quinnipiac) drove in two runs each and former Fitch High School standout Aaron Hill (UConn) scored twice.

    Zone VI Senior Legion

    • Cooper Robinson pitched a two-hitter as New London beat Jewett City 1-0. Robinson struck out seven. New London (6-2) scored in the bottom of the first. Jeremy Santos was hit by a pitch with one out and moved to second on an infield single by Gabriel Cortorreal. Both runners moved up on a wild pitch and Santos scored on a sacrifice fly by Justin Marceau.

    • New London and Ledyard-Pawcatuck split a doubleheader on Wednesday night, with host New London winning the opener 6-1 and Ledyard-Pawcatuck winning the second game 2-1.

    New London’s Hunter Nadeau pitched a two-hitter in the opener, striking out four with two walks. Cooper Robinson had two hits and scored twice and Jeremy Santos and Hendrick Khoury each had two hits and drove in a run for New London.

    Michael Dellaporta of Ledyard-Pawcatuck pitched a six-hitter in the second game. Troy Stefanski had two hits and scored both runs and John Moody had two hits and drove in both runs for Ledyard-Pawcatuck (3-6). Trevor Bolduc had two hits for New London.

    Zone VI Junior Legion

    • Ryan Kane pitched six strong innings, leading Niantic to a 6-3 win over Norwich on Wednesday night. Kane struck out 11 with one walk and allowed three hits. Jackson Deweese, Jared Hunt and Matt Fanelli had two hits each for Niantic (3-2).

    • Carlos Rosario had three hits and drove in two runs as Three Rivers beat Northeast Nine 12-1 on Wednesday night. Devon Lee and Jerrod Loy-Smith had two hits each for Three Rivers and Saxon Herbert was the winning pitcher, striking out eight. Izzy Davila scored the run for Northeast Nine.
