    Local roundup: Tigers slip past Cyclones

    New York — The Connecticut Tigers rallied from a 1-0 deficit to beat the Brooklyn Cyclones 2-1 on Thursday night in a New York-Penn League game.

    The Tigers (2-5) tied the game in the top of the fourth inning when Jose Zambrano scored from second on a fielder's choice by Corey Baptist, coming home when Baptist beat the throw to first as Brooklyn tried to turn a double play.

    Connecticut broke the tie in the sixth. Brett Pirtle, who was 3-for-4, doubled. He advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a sacrifice fly by Will Allen.

    Spenser Watkins (1-1) earned the win, allowing three hits and one run over 5.1 innings. Jack Fischer earned hit first save with a hitless ninth inning.

    Zone VI Senior Legion

    • New London beat Waterford 2-1. Mike Williams pitched a six-hitter for the win, striking out two with one walk. Pieter Khoury doubled home Trevor Bolduc in the second inning with New London's first run and Brett Perry scored on an error in the fifth with the second run for New London (9-4). Waterford (6-4) scored its run on Justin Keating's pinch-hit single in the seventh scoring Chase Speller.

    • Norwich beat Ledyard/Pawcatuck 6-5, avoiding a three-game series sweep. Steve Sieczkowski was 2-for-3 with two RBI for Norwich (5-9). Troy Stefanski (three runs scored) and Bryce Bedard (two RBI) had two hits each for Ledyard/Pawcatuck (5-7).

    Ledyard/Pawcatuck swept a doubleheader from Norwich on Wednesday night, winning the opener 6-4 and the second game 4-0. Bedard (opener) and Michael Bruce had complete game wins. Bedard struck out eight and Bruce pitched a one-hitter with four strikeouts. Stefanski had two hits in the opener and drove in three runs in the second game for Ledyard/Pawcatuck. Michael Dellaporta had five hits in the doubleheader and Kevin Knowles scored twice and stole two bases for Ledyard/Pawcatuck.

    District 10 softball (11-12)

    • Montville rallied from a two-run deficit for a 3-2 win over Pawcatuck in a Pool A game on Wednesday night. Rori Curran singled and came around to score the winning run with two outs in the sixth inning. Alexis Michon pitched a three-hitter for the win and also had two hits and scored a run. Maggie Wainwright had two hits and scored a run for Montville and Elaina Previty pitched a complete game with seven strikeouts for Pawcatuck.

    Road racing

    • Nicholas Migani of Griswold won the Liz Harris Cannonball Run in Preston, finishing the mile run in 4:30. Megan Brawner of Gales Ferry was the top women's finishing, placing sixth at 5:27. Also making the top 10 were Derek French of Norwich (4:35), Brian Gaudreau (5:15), Ryan Powers (5:21), Cody Kersteter of Ledyard (5:21), Thomas Olendorg of Mystic (5:28), Chris Lemay (5:35), Dan Phillips (5:38) and Scott Kersteter of Ledyard (5:41).
