    Local roundup: Hoy grand slam lifts Schooners

    Montpelier, Vt. — Dan Hoy hit a grand slam in a five-run top of the first inning, leading the Mystic Schooners to a 12-4 Monday win over the Vermont Mountaineers in the New England Collegiate Baseball League.

    Hoy (Princeton) was 3-for-3 with six RBI, Derek Jenkins (Seton Hall) was 3-for-3 with two runs scored and Ben Ruta (Wagner) homered and scored four runs for the Schooners (16-11). Sam Nepiarsky (UConn) earned the victory, allowing two runs over five innings with four strikeouts and no walks.

    Tigers win

    • The Connecticut Tigers scored twice in the top of the third inning and held on to beat the Williamsport Crosscutters 2-1 in a New York-Penn League game. Christin Stewart doubled home Victor Pedron and A.J. Simcox for the Tigers' runs. Corey Baptist, Kade Scivicque and Stewart had two hits each for Connecticut (11-12).  

    District 10 LL baseball (10-11)

    • Waterford won the 10-11-year-old championship, beating East Lyme 11-4 to complete the district tournament undefeated. Scott Olmstead pitched a complete game for the win. Logan Avin had four hits for Waterford, while Gavin Hernandez and Will Rocchetti each had a single and a double.

    State Babe Ruth (15)

    • Norwalk scored five runs in the sixth inning to snap a 2-2 tie and eliminated host Waterford 7-2. Walker Sutman and Matt Driscoll had two hits each for Waterford.

    • Groton was eliminated by West Hartford 4-2. Dominic Patti struck out four over five innings for Groton. Daniel Mojica and Derek Jones each scored a run and had a hit and Jordan Lowell had a hit and drove in a run for Groton.

    State Babe Ruth (13)

    • East Lyme fell to Newtown 11-1 in its final game of pool play. East Lyme (2-1) plays Simsbury in a semifinal at Danbury at 8 p.m. Thursday. Galen Donovan had a run-scoring double for East Lyme. 

    SEC 16-18 Babe Ruth

    • Frankie Zawacki pitched a three-hitter as Waterford beat East Lyme 14-1. Anthony Jordan singled, doubled and tripled and Zawacki singled and doubled for Waterford (5-1). Tyler Howser, Tommie Feliciano, Andrew Kenniston and Cody Cleary had doubles for Waterford and Jon Keens had two hits for East Lyme (0-6).

    • Javier Denizard pitched six shutout innings, leading TriCounty to a 6-0 win over East Lyme on Sunday night. Denizard allowed three hits and struck out 10. Zach Hyde had two hits and scored twice for TriCounty (5-2).

    District 11 LL baseball (11-12)

    • Griffin Pontbriant and Ryan Trudeau hit two-run homers as Norwich beat Moosup 13-1. Derek Trudeau and winning pitcher Brian Miskiewicz had doubles for Norwich.

    District 10 LL baseball (11-12)

    • Groton defeated Pawcatuck/North Stonington 11-7 Sunday night. Max Grossman earned the win for Groton, pitching 5.1 innings, striking out three. Sam Lambert reached base four times, highlighted by a two-run home run in the sixth inning, and Gabe Amar and Grossman had two hits and scored two runs each. Conner Melinoski led the way for Pawcatuck/North Stonington with a single, double and two runs scored. Sam Casadei also had two hits and scored a run.

    District 10 LL baseball (9-10)

    • East Lyme defeated North Stonington 24-0, with Gavin O'Brien and Drew Beckham combining to pitch a three-hitter for the win. Chris Stevens was 3-for-3 with three RBI and four runs scored for East Lyme, Connor Moran 2-for-3 with two RBI and four runs, Alex Dreyfus had a double with four RBI and three runs and Gavin O'Brien was 2-for-2 with three RBI and two runs. Connor Tukey and Ethan Moore added two RBI apiece.

    • Brady Borysewicz was the winning pitcher, striking out four, as Groton beat Pawcatuck 9-7. Nathan Lowry and Anthony Medina each had two hits and Ray Hildago made two nice catches in center field for Groton. Dave Duguay had two hits for Pawcatuck.

    • Mystic beat New London 17-0 behind the pitching of Jackson Lalima, who struck out six and allowed two hits in four innings. Ethan Mireault went 3-for-4 and four RBI, while Aidan Whitten went 3-for-3 with two RBI and Mireault, Lalima and Luke Noreika each had doubles for Mystic. Dylan Meyer, Jason Hartman, Sidharth Bulusu and Noreika each had two RBI. Zion Fraser had a double for New London.

    • Waterford beat Lyme/Old Lyme 23-3. For Waterford, Mason Concascia and Evan McCue had three hits each, Sean Salvador had four hits and Logan Peabody had a bases-clearing triple and a double to lead the team with five RBI. Liam Fallon had two hits and David Evers had a double for Lyme/Old Lyme.

    District 10 LL softball (9-10)

    • Ledyard defeated Pawcatuck 4-1 in the semifinals. Samantha Money pitched a two-hitter with 17 strikeouts for Ledyard, while adding a pair of singles. Phoebe Werling broke up the no-hitter with an RBI triple for Pawcatuck, scoring Carli Lopresto. Aaliyah Amidon went 2-for-3 and Iyana Kirvan hit a two-run home run for Ledyard. Lopresto had nine strikeouts for Pawcatuck.
