    Local roundup: Waterford wraps up District 10 (9-10) softball title

    Waterford — Abby Maynard singled and scored the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh inning as Waterford beat Ledyard 3-2 to wrap up the District 10 Little League softball (9-10) on Thursday night.

    Ledyard won the best-of-three series opener 5-2 on Tuesday night and Waterford evened the series with a 2-0 win on Wednesday.

    Tori Kiefer's bunt drove in Maynard. Milena Walker was the winning pitcher, striking out 13. Waterford took a 2-0 lead when Anna Donahue singled home Autumn Brothers and Emma Marelli.

    Ledyard pitcher Samantha Money also struck out 13. Money had two hits and Jen Towne and money scored for Ledyard.

    State LL softball (11-12)

    • Waterford dropped into the losers' bracket with a 4-3 loss to Westport in the state finals at Bristol. The District 10 champions will play Seymour, a 4-2 winner over Windsor, in an elimination game on Friday.

    Waterford beat Windsor 13-0 in its opener on Wednesday night. Rachel Miller pitched a three-hitter with five strikeouts and went 4-for-4 with a double and triple. Madison Nott and Taylor Lee each singled and doubled and Molly Quiles had two hits for Waterford.

    District 6 LL baseball (9-10)

    • Nate Hynes hit a three-run homer and Mason Concascia was 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI as Waterford beat East Lyme 5-2 in a semifinal on Wednesday night. Gavin O'Brien was 3-for-4 with a homer for East Lyme.

    • Aidan Whitten pitched a three-hitter with three strikeouts as Mystic beat Groton 8-0 in a semifinal on Wednesday night. Ethan Mireault and Jackson Lalima had triples and Jose Rodriguez doubled for Mystic, which faces Waterford in Game 1 of their best-of-three championship series on Friday at Mystic.

    Tigers fall

    • The Lowell Spinners scored an unearned run in the top of the fifth inning and held on to beat the Connecticut Tigers 1-0 in a New York-Penn League game. Aenudis Peralta doubled with one out and, one out later, scored on a throwing error. Josh Lester had two hits for the Tigers (11-14). Connecticut starter Matt Hall allowed one hit over three innings, striking out four with no walks.
