    Hermanson, Rainaud capture titles

It was a good day for two golfers with ties to Black Hall Club in Old Lyme.

Assistant pro Adam Rainaud captured the Connecticut PGA Professional Championship, shooting a two-round total of 4-under 140 at The Ranch Golf Club in Southwick, Mass. He won the event on the first playoff hole, beating Billy Downes of Longmeadow, Mass.

Rainaud is one of five golfers earning spots in the 49th PGA Professional Championship, which will run from June 26-29 at Turning Stone Resort in Verona, N.Y.

Bill Hermanson, an East Lyme resident and long-time Black Hall member, won his first Connecticut Senior Amateur Championship at Torrington Country Club in Goshen. He carried a two-shot lead into today's second round and fired a 76 to finish with a 2-over 146, beating runnerup Mark Vasington of Wampanoag Country Club by two strokes.

It is Hermanson's third Connecticut State Golf Association victory this year. He also won the Senior Match Play Championship and Two-Man Team Championship.

"It feels really good to have won my third different CSGA major championship," Hermanson said in a CSGA release. "I've played really consistent all year."

Richard Wilczewski of Shennecossett Golf Course tied for 21st with a 160 (81-79).
