    Local roundup: East Lyme foils unbeaten Coventry volleyball in five

    East Lyme — Alexis Bell had 44 assists and 29 kills as the East Lyme High School volleyball team gave perennial CIAC Class S power Coventry its first loss on Wednesday, 26-24, 16-25, 25-20, 20-25, 15-9.

    Madison Bell had 37 digs and Maggy Powers 21 digs for East Lyme (6-2), which reeled off seven straight points in game five to come from behind. Also, Carly Puckett had 17 kills.

    Coventry is 7-1.

    In other matches:

    • Madison Bodley had 14 kills and nine digs as Norwich Tech beat Putnam 26-24, 25-12, 22-25, 25-10 in a Constitution State Conference East Division match. Chloe Guzman had 18 assists, two kills and two digs for Norwich Tech (5-2, 4-0) and Saige LaQuitara added seven aces and four kills. Putnam is 2-4, 2-1.

    • Lauryn Benoit had five kills and two aces as Montville beat Killingly 25-22, 26-24, 14-25, 25-18 in the Eastern Connecticut Conference Medium. Kyndra Dietrich had six kills and Naomi Clark six aces for Montville (5-4, 4-1). Karisa Slowik had 25 assists, 10 digs and eight kills for Killingly.

    • Mae Sefransky had 22 assists and Jen Severino added 12 kills as unbeaten Fitch swept Bacon Academy 25-13, 25-11, 25-12 in the ECC Large. Fitch is 10-0, 4-0. Kelly Nudd had four kills for Bacon.

    • Colleen Mueller had 11 aces and three kills as Old Lyme beat Hyde 25-4, 25-12, 25-10 in the Shoreline Conference. Marissa Smith added 11 assists for Old Lyme (3-5, 2-5).

    • Vanessa Parra had two kills and two digs as Grasso Tech as beat Metro Learning Center 25-18, 25-14, 25-21. Patience Hamilton had two digs and a kill for Grasso (2-4) and Kiera Sebastian added a kill.

    • Lela Miller had 28 assists and Jacqueline Low 16 kills as Woodstock Academy outlasted Norwich Free Academy 15-25, 33-31, 25-22, 19-25, 15-5 in the ECC Large. Amanda Haines had 18 digs for Woodstock (6-3, 2-2). Kayley Ericson had 44 assists, Mackenzie Burke had 19 digs and eight kills and Megan Goldstein had 14 kills for NFA (4-4, 1-3).

    • Katy Konow had 22 assists and 10 digs and Kristina Olenick added 10 kills as Lyman Memorial swept Wheeler 25-12, 25-14, 25-10 in the ECC Small. Lyman is 8-1. Wheeler is 1-7, 0-5.

    H.S. football

    • The threat of inclement weather on Friday prompted two area games to be rescheduled to Thursday. East Lyme (0-3) will play at Montville (1-1) at 7 p.m. The Valley Regional/Old Lyme co-op (1-2, 0-2) will play at North Branford (2-1, 2-1) in the Pequot Football Conference South Division (6:30 p.m.)

    Men’s soccer

    • Sophomore Ryan Dandan had a goal and two assists as Coast Guard downed Mitchell 6-0. Jasen Kingsley, Garrett Magill, Lukas Benedetto and Luke Telang all scored for the Bears (3-7), who didn’t give up a shot to the Mariners. Romer Ochoa had four saves for Mitchell (3-5-1).
