    Local roundup: Conn finishes fourth at NESCAC men's swimming

    Middletown —  Connecticut College finished fourth at the New England Small College Athletic Conference men's swimming championships on Sunday.

    The Camels scored 1,331 points, trailing Williams College (1,671), Amherst (1,402) and Tufts (1,391). The title was the 15th straight for Williams.

    Conn got a third place in the 400-yard freestyle relay with George Tilneac, AJ Pite, Trebor Lawton and Mike Fothergill turning in a time of 3:03.04. Pite also finished third in the 200 breaststroke at 2:03.96 and Tilneac was third in the 200 butterfly at 1:50.27. Fourth-place finishes went to Stephen Skaperdas (200 butterfly, 1:50.67) and Fothergill (100 freestyle, 45.71) and Loring Bowen was sixth in the 200 backstroke (1:49.99).

    College baseball

    • Centre completed a three-game sweep of Coast Guard at Emerson, Ga., winning 8-0. Three pitchers combined to pitch a six-hitter for Centre. Zach Serna had two hits for Coast Guard (0-3) and teammate Dan Finn pitched 2.1 innings of scoreless relief.

    • UConn lost to UMass Lowell 11-8 at Port St. Lucie, Fla. Groton's Aaron Hill was 3-6 with two runs scored, Isaac Feldstein was 4-for-5 and Anthony Prado was 3-for-4 for UConn (3-1). Doug Domnarski, the former Stonington and Avery Point standout, took the loss in his first start of the season. He allowed six hits and six runs in just one inning of work.  

    College softball

    • UConn swept a doubleheader, beating IUPUI 7-2 and host Chattanooga 5-1. Valerie Sadowl was 5-for-7 with a homer and five RBI in the two games for UConn (2-2).

    H.S. girls' fencing

    • Fitch completed its third unbeaten regular season and fourth straight Eastern Connecticut Conference regular season title in epee on Saturday. The Falcons beat New London 7-2 and East Lyme 8-1. New London beat East Lyme 6-3. In foil, East Lyme beat New London 6-3 and Fitch 5-4. Fitch beat New london 9-0 and shares the regular-season title with NFA.   

    H.S. boys' fencing

    • Fitch grabbed a share of the ECC regular season foil title with and 8-1 win over New London and a 6-3 win over East Lyme on Saturday. The Falcons shares the title with Ledyard. East Lyme beat New London 6-3. East Lyme also beat Fitch 6-3 in epee to clinch the regular-season title at 9-1.

    Men's squash

    • Connecticut College closed out its season with a 5-4 win over New York University. Daniel Reisman, Rafael Gamba, Michael Rodriguez, Winston Simone and Clay Lenehan won their matches for Conn (5-17).    

    Men's track

    • Junior Darius Adams set a school record in the long jump with a winning distance of 23 feet, 3.25 inches, leading Coast Guard to a sixth-place finish at the New England Division III Championship at Tufts on Saturday. The 4x800 relay quartet of Sydney Johnson, Riley Miller, William Klein and Benjamin Taminger took first in 7:53.29 for the Bears, who finished with 48 points. Tufts was the team champion with 127. The 4x400 relay team of Nicholas Frystak Jacob Pawlina, Luke Rehfuss and Raeford Penny ran to All-New England honors with a second-place finish in 3:21.07, while Brett Foster was third in the 1,000 (2:29.74).

    Women's track

    • Coast Guard finished in 11th place at the New England Division III Championship on Saturday with 20 points. Gabrielle Troise earned All-New England honors twice, placing sixth and posting a school record in the weight throw (49-8) and also was seventh in the shot put (38-11.5). Ashlee Johnson also set a school record and earned All-New England honors in the 600, placing sixth (1:37.87), while the 4x800 relay team of Anita Green, Morgan Garrett, Adora Lawrence and Johnson finished second in 9:31.66.
