    Local roundup: Silva, Porazzi lead Waterford past Lyman in baseball

    Waterford — Bobby Silva pitched five innings for the win and was 3-for-3 as Waterford beat Lyman Memorial 7-0 in a high school baseball game on Sunday. 

    Silva (3-0) allowed two hits with five strikeouts, scored a run and drove in a run. Nick Porazzi homered, drove in three runs and scored twice, Mike Burrows singled, doubled and drove in two runs and Ben Jerome singled and doubled for Waterford (15-4).

    In other games:

    • Lyman Memorial scored 12 runs in the top of the seventh inning to rally for a 15-5 win over Wheeler in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Division III game. Chris Haines was 2-for-3 with two RBI and Bowen Baker was 2-for-3 with an RBI for Wheeler (6-13, 2-10).

    H.S. rowing

    • East Lyme's boys' varsity four placed second in the grand final and the girls were third in the Connecticut Public Schools Rowing Association state championships on Lake Waramaug in New Preston. The boys' team, second to Lewis Mills, is coxswained by Brooklyn Geida, stroked by Ethan Rhodig and DJ Bond along with Mingfei Duan and Nate Kosyak. The boys' novice eight finished first.

    The girls' first boat finished behind Glastonbury and Simsbury. East Lyme's boat includes coxswain Billie Hazan, strokes Rasa Kervelevicius and Alexa Stewart with rowers Abby Lottridge, Julia Fenn, Lauren Real, Emma Vlaun, Sloane Putnam and Samantha Todaro. The girls' top seeded second boat suffered a mechanical issue early in their race. After jumping out to an early lead, an oar came out of its oarlock. Despite stopping to fix the problem, the Vikings finished third in their grand final after losing three boat lengths. The girls' third boat placed fourth.

    H.S. boys' tennis

    • East Lyme finished ECC Division I play unbeaten with a 7-0 win over Fitch at  Old Saybrook Racquet Club. Finn Power, Davon Chen and Eric Gu were straight-set winners for the Vikings (11-0, 8-0) along with the doubles teams of Conrad French-Sumeet Kadian, Guillem Colom-Jonathan Tan and Ethan Stewart-Sam Gresh. Fitch (5-8, 4-4) forfeited at No. 4 singles. 

    • Stonington won the first three singles matches, but was swept in doubles and lost to Morgan 4-3 in a nonleague match. Will Michelson, Sean Bessette and Kyle Remmert were straight-set winners for the Bears (12-3).

    • Ledyard's Nate McCracken has earned the top seed for the upcoming ECC tournament. The No. 2 seed is East Lyme's Finn Power while Stonington's Will Michelson is seeded third and East Lyme's Davon Chen fourth. In doubles, East Lyme's team of Conrad French-Sujesh Kurumbail was the No. 1 seed and Ledyard's Chris Charette-Trevor Hutchins are seeded second.

    The first and second rounds will take place Tuesday starting at 3 p.m. with singles at East Lyme and doubles at New London. The rest of the tournament will be played at East Lyme with the quarterfinals and semis slated for Wednesday at 3 p.m. and the finals set for Thursday, also at 3.

    H.S. softball

    • Old Lyme's Audrey Gavin was selected the Shoreline Conference all-star team as a first-team selection and Wildcats' coach Tim Gavin, Audrey's father, was named the league's coach of the year. Maddie Cann of Old Lyme recevied honorable mention.  

    H.S. sailing

    • Williams School finished third in the third annual CT League Fleet Race Championship on Saturday, which it hosted at Avery Point. Hotchkiss won the title with 24 points, Choate was second with 27 at Williams had 39 in the seven-team event. Williams, which concluded its season, was third in A Division (18) and B Division (21).

    Road racing

    • Quaker Hill's Sean Corman won the Quaker Hill Challenge 5K on Saturday, taking the title for the third straight year. Corman finished in a time of 21:11 and Evalyn Tesler of Quaker Hill was the top female finisher, coming in ninth in 25:59. Also finishing in the top 10 were Josh Spooner of Sturbridge, Mass. (21:39), Kevin Silvestri of Quaker Hill (22:34), Zac Gamble of Waterford (22:52), Tim Schucken of West Hartford (23:12), Paul Andruskiewicz of Preston (24:28), David Blair of Waterford (24:29), Matthew Shampine of Waterford (25:49) and Danielle Schoman of mystic (26:09).
