    Local roundup: UConn women release non-conference schedule

    Storrs — The UConn women's basketball team announced its non-conference schedule on Wednesday, which begins with the season opener at home against Ohio State on Saturday, Nov. 17.

    The Huskies will play 14 non-conference games, including four home games, four neutral site games and six away games. Sites for the four home games, as well as times and television information on all 14 games, will be released at a later day.

    UConn will also play exhibition games against Vanguard University, an NAIA program from Costa Mesa, Calif., on Nov. 4 and Division II Southern Connecticut on Nov. 15.

    In addition to Ohio State, the Huskies will also play DePaul (Nov. 28), Seton Hall (Dec. 8) and South Carolina (Feb. 11) at home, Notre Dame (Dec. 2), Saint Louis (Dec. 4), Oklahoma (Dec. 19), California (Dec. 22), Baylor (Jan. 3) and Louisville (Jan. 31) on the road, and will have neutral site games against Vanderbilt (Nov. 17 at Mohegan Sun Arena) and Ole Miss, St. John's and Purdue at the Paradise Jam in the U.S. Virgin Islands (Nov. 22-24).

    Zone 6 Legion baseball

    • New London was held to two hits in a 2-1 loss to Willimantic. Clay Tamburri went five innings for the win and Justin Mancino got the win in relief for defending zone champion Willimantic (3-2). New londin is 6-5. 

    • Nathan Landon singled, doubled and scored twice as Waterford beat Norwich 11-2 on Tuesday. Ryan O'Connell allowed one run over five innings for the win for Waterford (5-1). Riley Burke had two hits and Daniel Blair doubled for Norwich (1-9).

    Tigers fall

    • The Vermont Lake Monsters rallied from a 3-0 deficit for a 10-3 win over the Connecticut Tigers in a New York-Penn League baseball game. Cameron Warner doubled twice and Isrrael De La Cruz scored twice for the Tigers (2-4). 

    The Tigers fell to Vermont in the second game of a doubleheader on Tuesday night, losing 1-0 in eight innings. Vermont won the opener 5-4. Jack O'Loughlin, an 18-year-old from Australia, pitched four hitless innings in his professional debut, striking out five with no walks. Billy Lescher continued the no-hit bid over the next three innings but Vermont's first hit came in the eighth inning, a walk-off RBI single by Robert Mullen in the eighth inning off Aaron Fernandez.
