Essay contest aims to inspire young voters

Believing that democracy is not a spectator sport, the League of Women Voters of Southeastern Connecticut is sponsoring an essay contest on "Why Young People Should Vote in Local Elections." Are there issues that are of particular interest to young people? What could town or city representatives do to solve a problem that young people care about? How would a young person get other young people to become interested and vote?

Local league leaders said they hope that by taking part in this 700-word essay contest, students will create the beginnings of what will be a lifelong habit of informed participation in the workings of a healthy democracy.

For more information and contest details, email LWVSECT15@gmail.com or visit the league's website, www.sect.lwvconnecticut.org, or the LWVSECT Facebook page.
