New London’s Telegraph Records celebrates Record Store Day on Saturday

Members of the Boston band Bearstronaut will perform at The Telegraph.

Cassettes? Eight tracks? Yes, they’ve all gone away — and CDs are a nationally recognized endangered species.

But vinyl? Vinyl will always be with us and its value to Music Heads is incalculable.

Appropriately, the eighth annual Record Store Day, celebrated internationally in over 2,500 outlets this Saturday, will be observed in big fashion at New London’s Telegraph Records Shop.

Record Store Day has become a huge deal for artists and retailers; there will be approximately 400 exclusive releases for RSD — from major and indie labels — and the folks at the Telegraph will have plenty available for purchase and study. In addition, partake of an array of free merch.

Oh, and live music! To serenade as you poke through the stacks, a rich variety of bands will perform. The schedule: Skobie Won and NME the Illest (2 p.m.), Terrible Roars (3 p.m.), Daphne Lee Martin and Thor Jensen (4 p.m.), members of Bearstronaut (5 p.m.), Torn Shorts (6 p.m.), loom (7 p.m.), Violent Mae (8 p.m.), and Wolfghost (9 p.m.).

Fun to note: Boston’s Bearstronaut are taking off and are confirmed for an appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” later this year. Request their “Passenger Side” and you’ll see why.
