    Niantic church announces community service Wednesday in response to S.C. shootings

    East Lyme — Saint John's Episcopal Church has announced it will conduct a "Community Service of Thanksgiving and Reconciliation" in response to the mass murder at Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, S.C.

    The service is scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday, at St. John's at 400 Main St. in Niantic.

    The service will celebrate the lives of the "Martyrs of Charleston" with prayers for reconciliation and peace, according to the event notice.

    The service is open to all. Parking is available on St. John's Green and Rogers' Field behind the church. More information is available by calling the parish office at (860) 739-2324.
