Lyme Democrats endorse Mattson for selectman, cross-endorse Eno for first selectman

Lyme — The town's Democrats endorsed incumbent Steven Mattson for selectman and a slate of candidates for the November municipal elections at Thursday's caucus.

Mattson is serving his fifth consecutive term as selectman and also served on the town committee overseeing recent renovations to Town Hall and the rebuilding of the Lyme Public Library.

The Democratic Town Committee also cross-endorsed Republican candidate and incumbent Ralph F. Eno Jr. for first selectman on Thursday.

The Republican Town Committee had endorsed incumbent selectman Parker H. Lord earlier this week, meaning the candidates for the Board of Selectmen will again be uncontested.

At Thursday's Democratic Town Committee caucus, the Democrats also endorsed incumbent Judith Duran for the Board of Finance.

Incumbent Phyllis Ross received a nomination for the Planning and Zoning Commission.

In addition to Eno, Democrats also cross-endorsed incumbent Linda Winzer for town clerk. The Republican Town Committee endorsed Winzer earlier this week.

"The Lyme Democratic Town Committee is happy to endorse another strong slate of candidates for this year's municipal elections and welcomes the continued involvement of many of its candidates," said Mattson, who is the chairman of the Democratic Town Committee, in an email interview.

"The Committee is also pleased to cross endorse Lyme's First Selectman and its Town Clerk in recognition of their strong support of all members of the Lyme community and their outstanding performance," he added.

The Democratic slate also included John Kiker for the Board of Assessment Appeals, George Willauer for the Lyme Public Library Directors, and Winnifred Gencarella for alternate for the Zoning Board of Appeals.
