Norwich man faces multiple charges in domestic incident

Groton — Police say a Norwich man was arrested on multiple charges after he kicked in the door of a Groton City home and fled into the woods.

Emilio Rodriguez, 22, of 49 Union St., Apt. 2, Norwich, injured his lower leg Monday when he jumped over a fence and fell down a rocky ravine in his attempt to escape after the incident, police reported.

A state police K-9 officer and Groton City police found Rodriguez injured in a heavily wooded area.

Groton City firefighters and Electric Boat ambulance workers helped get him out.

Rodriguez is charged with violation of a protective order, second-degree burglary, second-degree breach of peace, second-degree criminal mischief and interfering with police, according to police.

He was discharged Tuesday from Lawrence + Memorial Hospital and due to appear Wednesday in court.

A woman called Groton City police at 9:16 a.m. on Monday saying someone was trying to break into her house, a police report stated.

When officers arrived, they saw a man run through the backyard and scale a fence to get away. He then ran in the woods.

Police set up a perimeter around the woods, sought help from the state police K-9 unit, and found the man injured, the report said.

Officers said Rodriguez had arrived at the house to speak with the mother of his child, and when he began to argue, she asked him to leave, the report said.

She locked the door to keep him out, but he kicked in the rear door and came back in, acccording to the report.

The woman, who has a court-set protective order, then called police.
