    Norwich to celebrate History Day Sunday

    Norwich — Re-enactment groups, local historical societies and organizations and music groups will converge on the Norwichtown Green on Sunday for History Day.

    The event will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday on the green and is free and open to the public.

    It will feature 15 heritage-based nonprofit groups, historical societies, historic house museums, colonial crafters, antiques dealers and performances by the Nutmeg Fife and Drum Corps in the morning.

    Re-enactment groups including the Crew of the Raven, the Lebanon Town Militia, Sons of the American Revolution, the 9th Regiment of Foot and the New Haven Soldiers Aid.

    In addition, there will be a special tribute in the afternoon to NAACP President Jackie Owens, who will retire in December after 30 years in the position.

    A tour of the colonial burial ground and professional storytellers in the Norwich Heritage and Regional Visitors’ Center are planned in the afternoon.

    A full schedule of events will be available at the information booth.

    Limited parking is available around the green. Additional parking will be available at the United Community and Family Services office in the Samuel Huntington House, 34 E. Town St.
