    East Lyme High School participates in program on First Amendment

    East Lyme High School was one of several high schools and universities across the state that was part of a pilot program on the First Amendment that was held in connection with National Sunshine Week, which runs from March 12 to March 18.

    Sunshine Week is an "annual nationwide celebration of access to public information" by the American Society of News Editors and Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press, according to a website about Sunshine Week.

    The Connecticut Foundation for Open Government, a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization focused on freedom of speech and open government, and other organizations started a statewide pilot program in which journalists and attorneys visited classrooms to speak about Freedom of Speech and open government, according to a news release.

    Other sites include Platt High School in Meriden, Lyman Hall in Wallingford, The University of Connecticut in Storrs, Central Connecticut State University in New Britain, Western Connecticut State University in Danbury and Quinnipiac University in Hamden.
