Callahan re-elected as warden in Stonington Borough

Stonington — Independent Borough Warden Jeff Callahan, who ran unopposed, was elected to a third term at Monday's borough elections.

In addition, voters elected six of the seven people running for the burgess seats on the Board of Warden and Burgesses.

They were incumbent Democrats Robert Scala, Amanda Barnes, Amy Nicholas and Karen von Ruffer Hills, incumbent Republican Michael Adair and Republican Shaun Mastroianni, a member of the town’s Planning and Zoning Commission.

The unsuccessful candidate was Republican Howard Park, a longtime burgess who served as the street commissioner.

Callahan said that 200 of the borough's 800 registered, cast ballots, three times the number that voted two years ago. He attributed the improved turnout to an increased effort to get people to vote, which involved posters and a meet-and-greet event with the candidates.
