    Department of Labor Veterans’ staff offering workforce assistance at Sept.18 Stand Down 2015

    Wethersfield – Employees from the Connecticut Department of Labor's Office for Veterans' Workforce Development (OVWD) will offer workforce services, including employment and training guidance, to veterans during Stand Down 2015 taking place from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sept. 18. 

     The event will be held on the grounds of the Connecticut Department of Veterans' Affairs' main campus, located at 287 West St., Rocky Hill.

    More than 30 government agencies and social service organizations will take part in the event, which is organized by the Connecticut Department of Veterans' Affairs. These groups will provide visitors with education, workforce, legal and motor vehicle assistance, housing referrals, state and federal VA benefits information, and medical, dental and mental health screenings. Free clothing will also be distributed. More than 1,000 veterans are expected to attend, and they are asked to arrive by noon to access any of the services.

    Veterans needing transportation to Stand Down 2015 can take a bus, which will pick up riders between 6 and 7:30 a.m., at a number of locations around the state. Bus stops will be in Bridgeport, Bristol, Danbury, Danielson, Derby, East Hartford, Ellington, Enfield, Hartford, Manchester, Middletown, Milford, Naugatuck, New Britain, New Haven, New London, Newington, Norwalk, Norwich, Stamford, Terryville/Plymouth, Torrington, Vernon/Rockville, Suffield, Wallingford, Waterbury, West Haven, Westport and Willimantic.  Visit the Veterans' Affairs website at http://www.ct.gov/ctva/cwp/view.asp?a=1992&q=566332.
