Onlookers line the shore Friday as the USS Constellation is guided by tugs along the jetties at Isla Blanca Park on South Padre Island, Texas. The 54-year-old aircraft carrier is being towed from the mothball fleet at Bremerton, Wash., to Brownsville, Texas, where it will be scrapped. International Shipbreaking Ltd. will be paid $3 million to scrap the former military vessel, plus the proceeds from recycling. The Constellation was commissioned in 1961 and made six deployments during the Vietnam War. It also was deployed in the Persian Gulf, launching sorties into Iraq and Afghanistan, in 2003 before it was decommissioned later that year in California.
